MAREX in Moscow, SSTV Mir Project
June 1998 Row 1, shows testing of the New Mir Kantronics KPC-9612 TNC. The TNC was plug in compatible with the existing Mir ham radio transceiver the Kenwood TM-733. Two TNC's were shipped to Moscow, SN 400 and 401 which flew on Mir for 3 years. The Kantronics was activated in December 1997. Rows 2,3 show close up images of the Marex SSTV system, comprised of off-the-shelf hardware, including Kenwood TM-V7A, Tasco SSTV System, PictureTel Flip Camera and a controller custom built by Hank Cantrell and his team. The SSTV project was activated on Mir in December 1998. The SSTV project only required 15 months from the initial theory, until we received the first live Slow Scan TV images from Space.
