Background:
The MAREX team installed a Slow Scan TV system on Mir
in 1998. The project was very successful. As a follow on,
MAREX and ARISS started a joint project to design a more powerful
version of SSTV for ISS. The new Software version is
called SpaceCam1 and the prototype was sent to Russia in 1999.
The software has been going through changes, upgrades and
a long approval process since 1999.
Most of the Russian ISS crew have seen the software (on earth) during some
parts of their training. The commander Valery on ISS and I have
been talking about the MAREX/ARISS Spacecam project and other Amateur Radio projects
over the packet mail link.
The commander was interested to know when the SpaceCam project would fly,
and if it would arrive during his mission, so I sent him an update on the project status.

To ISS commander Valery K.

Dear Valery:
I talked to Frank today about the SpaceCam 1 project.
Frank said, SpaceCam1 will not fly this year.
Maybe it will fly in 2003.
We are waiting to test SpaceCam on the new taxi computers.
I hope it will be a fast year.

Dear Valery:
The Spacecam SSTV software only supports English.
We are planning on changing the software to make some
of the buttons in English and Russian.
Then it will need to be officially tested and approved.
